  • My Fair Lady Trailer - Scope and Flat

Not a film that made it to super 8 as a full length feature, I believe, unless you know different......

This film has had two trailer releases on super 8.

    The Scope version.

This runs for approx. 3'50" and is the "Special Selected Engagements" version which tells me it may not be the original but a re-run trailer produced years after its original release. It includes lengthy snippets of "With a Little Bit of Luck" "Ascot Gavotte" "I could have danced all night" "The Rain in Spain" "I'm Getting Married in The Morning" and "On The Street Where You Live."

This is the type of film one needs to see in scope, and this small glimpse in all its glory demonstrates how we have shot ourselves in the foot regarding a full super 8 release.

Picture quality very good / excellent. Sound very good.

    Flat version.

....... except it isn't. It is a letter box version and is shorter, running approx. 2'53". It has a shorter "With a Little Bit of Luck," a much shorter "I'm Getting Married in The Morning" and "On The Street Where You Live" is missing completely.

The picture quality was far lower. My copy had colour fade, not as sharp, and a rather heavy scratch for a few seconds at the beginning, which isn't the printers fault obviously.

    Picture quality average. Sound good.

    Hi Melvin.

I have a full length version of My Fair Lady on super 8. Yes it is a Italian print, but it is a very good copy. The picture is sharp, and although has fade it is still very watchable. It is mounted on 8 X 600 ft reels and includes the intermission compleate with the play out music.
I have rerecorded back over into to english, I just wish it had a balance track, as it would have made a wonderful stereo print. It is also in scope.

      Thanks for that Steve.

I should have known better than to make such outlandish statements like that. It's a strange old world this super 8 lark. Just amazing what surfaces now and again.

I was always under the impression that these Italian copies were both illegal and lousy prints !? You have proved me wrong regarding the lousy prints. I would settle for that copy anytime!

Some were crap but generally Italian prints were good they all had an inclination towards pink before it became popular. They also had a specific smell not vinegar more adhesive type pong.

My Fair Lady was issued as a trailer by Derann under Movieola label. There was talk of a feature length release under Fox deal but never came to pass Click image for larger version Name:	IMG_6237.jpg Views:	0 Size:	106.7 KB ID:	109189

During the 1970s, Italy had a large number of Super 8 distributors that put out top quality prints. We often think of the lower end bootlegs first, but there was high-grade output also.
