  • Ultra 8 ALICE IN WONDERLAND FULL feature

I celebrated my UNbirthday last night with Ultra 8's FULL feature release of the 1951 Animated classic!
    I was SIMPLY blown away.
I kept comparing this classic to the Derann releases of the other Disney animated classics and it seems to me that this Ultra 8 release is actually far superior in picture and sound.
The sharpness alone is amazing. Each frame is simply flawless.
The soundtrack is something else that means a great deal to me and this Ultra 8 release is one word..INCREDIBLE!
My GS1200 has never ran a film that looked or sounded better.
The photos are from my screening and do not show the quality of the print but I thought it would be fun to share.
The 76 min film comes mounted on four 400 ft reels and comes along with a three frame splice of the 35mm print used to create this release and a box for storing.
Thank you Ruben and Ultra 8 for creating this Super 8 treasure!
    I mean it.. thank you!

    Robert,

Thank you for the review. I appreciate that the screenshots are meant only to give a hint of the image quality, however they do convey that this is one impressive looking print. It's nice to see that a Disney film that was never put out (as a feature) in Super 8mm is available in 2025, especially one that's sourced from 35mm.
Kudos to Ultra 8 for an outstanding release.

I must admit that the color is pretty good on that projected image. How much does this cost, sound striping and all?

Osi, you'll need to reach out to Ultra 8 for current price (considering rate of exchange).
          Recorded stereo track included...

Looks great and a credit to Ultra 8's quality control, and the impressive packaging is a bonus. I'm astonished, though, if it's "far superior in picture" than the best of Derann's Disney releases, considering that I recall once showing 'Beauty and the Beast' to an audience and someone asking afterwards whether it was 16mm!

Is that little box, in that photo, a super 8 trailer of the feature as well?

Robert - I sincerely hope I do sooner or later! If anyone has an insight into the lab, it would be fascinating to hear any theories on why the print is so phenomenally good, because the best Derann Disney prints involved high quality negatives, which must have been a key factor in their quality. So if 'Alice' is even beating their prints, and there isn't a remarkable new film stock involved, I suppose that points to some sort of technological advancement that the lab has achieved. Such a step forward, in the 60th year of Super 8, should enhance our celebrations, and could be something of a shot in the arm for Super 8 releases. I'll certainly keep an eye on what's coming from Ultra 8!

The double bill cartoons from Ultra 8 are exceptional so I'm sure this Alice is just as good.
