I didn't see any reviews in the index, so I thought I would give some thoughts this evening about my copy of Only Angels Have Wings on Super 8.
STORY SYNOPSIS
Love for adventure and women are always on the brink of collapse for Geoff Carter (Cary Grant) as he manages the skies of a small runway in South America, where both past and present collide for a true classic from the legendary Howard Hawks.
Will Geoff find paydirt in the rain drenched forests or has he finally run out of runway?
PRINT
The digest for this film, in my opinion, is pretty good! It's always hard to get across the nuances of a film in only 20 minutes, but this edit is able to get most of the story across by focusing on the major plot points first and allowing the help of a narrator to fill in the gaps along the way. But by and large, most of the thematic structure of the film remains in tact.
COLOR/CONTRAST
As you can see from the attached pictures, the picture is pretty sharp and in beautiful black and white.
SOUND
It was recorded in mono and this may be the biggest negative to the edit. All the plane sequences are booming and will shake the house down, but by contrast the dialogue is all very quiet that it can be hard to understand.
