    Smarty Cat - 1955 - Colour - Tom & Jerry Cartoon - Derann Release?

Colour = No edge markings, but polyester and excellent colour
Sound = Good, but could be better
Box = Marked as Tom and Jerry cartoon classics, but no mention of Derann. Assume Derann is this was on their new price lists.

Tom's mates arrive with screen and a projector. Three films are projected which show how Tom got the better of Spike the bulldog. But Jerry and Spike have been watching through the window (Jerry already having been kicked out twice from the showing). Spike gets in and chases the cats outside whilst Jerry films the whole proceedings with his own cine camera.

The three films shown, with new titles in favour of Tom, are excerpts from "Solid Serenade", "Cat Fishin'" and "Fit To be Tied".

The three older films are carefully edited to show Tom getting the upper hand of the bulldog but there is plenty of new footage. One great laugh from "Solid Serenade" is Tom, with eyes closed, kissing the cute lady cat and in a stupor continues by unknowingly kissing Spike.

    Recommended.

This was what was called a cheater cartoon. That is, largely made up of previous footage. However, MGM did a good job of it. Good job Maurice.
