A few pics from this optical sound print, colours are holding well, very popular series in the UK back in the day so they made a movie ,starring Ronnie Barker, nice print.
Now that's a RARITY! I mean, there is a fairly rare 400ft digest of this film, bit I never heard of a feature before! This is what I LOVE about the optical sound super 8 prints! I happen to have a wonderful 30 minute short starring "The Two Ronnie's" called "The Picnic". Thanks for sharing.
I wonder why optical sound didn't catch on? Would't it have been cheaper to not have to stripe the film? I suppose that it would have been difficult making a camera that could expose an optical track directly on the film.
I'm not sure Kim why it wasn't as popular, I'm guessing the sound can be a bit muted on some prints, it was mainly used on airline prints but why I don't know,Mark
FUJI Film actually made a optical sound camera for use with their Single 8 cartridge. It was only sold in Japan. A LED supposedly wrote the sound onto the film. I recall reading this in one of author Lenny Lipton's Super 8mm books. I wonder how many were manufactured and sold.
Back in the day i used to wish that someday Super 8mm optical sound prints would become the norm . I also used to wish that someday someone would manufacture a state of the art Super 8mm optical sound playback only projector . Oh well i suppose dreams don't always come true .
Hi Graham that is most interesting i was not aware of that particular Elmo GS 1200 being made as optical sound only . Thanks for informing me of that and i wonder if it's optical sound quality was an improvement over the Mag / Optical version .
