Usually the amp and the sound head has it own 12V regulator. So, the voltage adjustment may work.

That's essentially a variable resistor of specific value installed externally rather than being "hidden" inside. So anyone with some electronics and machining background (to do soldering & drilling work) and a pile of variable resistors lying around, that shouldn't be a big issue then.
