VideoFred Script Explained

I started having a look at JohnMeyer's simplified version of Fred's film restoration script but gave up; there are so many varied dependencies (32bit/64bit, AVS normal version, AVS+ version) that it is very difficult to get it all set up.
Although, the results are astonishing, that's for sure. I'm particularly interested in the dehazing in this one:

To a certain extent, modern methods can achieve a good proportion of what Fred has (bearing in mind his last scripts are ~2012): SRestore, TFM/TDecimate, RIFE, Neat Video and Mercalli and they are simpler to set up and use than Fred's. Some are AVISynth which entails a bit of a learning curve.

Thanks for posting John's link. It is useful.
With VideoFred I run everything 32 bit including VirtualDub.
Let me know what issues you have and I may be able to help.
For dehazing you can use autolevels only from the scrips.
This effectively expands the histogram.
In the youtube video check the original histogram. The whole histogram is squeezed towards the high side.
That brightens the video giving impression of haze.
Autolevels expand the histogram towards the low end which fixes the issue.
You can do this in many other tools. I also use daVinci Resolve. Very powerful video editor an it is free.
Film9 can also do this I believe.
