  • Converting a Sankyo Dualux 1000 to Frame by Frame

I am exploring the possibility of building my own frame by frame capture system. I have a Sankyo Dualux 1000 projector that I'd like to use but I need some help and explanation and advice about how to proceed. I see that Nantawat Kittiwarakul has converted such a projector to frame by frame and am hoping that he will chime in, but would appreciate any and all comments about where to start, what parts I will need and perhaps a step-by-step guide regarding removing unneeded parts and replacing with the new stepper motor and it's accessories.

This is just the first step in my little "dream" project and I know I have lots to learn about making it all work. I'm hoping that your expertise and willingness to help will get this novice off to a good start. Thanks.

Among many things, there are in fact only 2 absolutely necessary modifications needed to be done.

    1. Replacing its original drive motor with low speed ones. Some may prefer stepper motor for its absolute control. For me a simple dc geared motor is more than good enough. And it's also dead easy to play with (suitable for electronically idiot like me).
    2. Adding a trigger system to command the shutter actuation of your camera. Since the camera I'm using (Panasonic GH5) would need no more than a circuit closure to "fire", so it is done by a magnet and a reed switch.

And that's it! This is enough to get going.

Other modifications are replacing the light source and its optics - necessary for either real-time or frame-by-frame approach. The rest (enlarging the gate / removing unused parts / etc.) is totally optional. So you may deal with it later on.
