I've got a couple of Wolverine clones(Model M127-B) that have a problem where the takeup reels are applying too much tension, so much that it randomly causes the film sprockets to jump past the advancing mechanism. Just wanted to see if anyone had had this problem with either the Wolverines or the clones. I can alleviate the problem by simply letting the film dump into a box instead of winding it onto the takeup reel, but this is only valid with 3" reels, since rewinding larger reels from the box would be quite a pain.

i assume are using the takeup rollers. They should reduce the takeup force. The Wolverine takeup uses a spring loaded clutch. If it is an older unit the issue could be caused by the clutch surface wear. You can try replacing the spring with a weaker spring. Another potential solution is to use a buck converter to reduce the motor torque:
