I have watched a few videos on Y/Tube on this subject but they are not that clear on how to do this. Is it possible to aim the iphone camera at a projection screen for the picture and use an RCA cable hooked to the projector sound output and plug it into the C usb on the phone. This will eliminate the projector noise of an open mike and should be good to go. But, it most likely is not that easy---or is it? Thanks for the help.

I have done it with the 16mm projector.
https://github.com/vintagefilmograph...16CL_to_iPhone
Designed the custom lens for the 16mm film. Would have to redesign it for more optical magnification for 8mm.
The audio is fed to a Usb dongle that plugs into the iPhone. Used the MoviePro app.
One problem with the setup is the projector vibration. The iPhone camera has a mechanical image stabilization that is susceptible to fast vibrations.
The workaround that is to mount the iPhone on a stand. Do not attach it to the projector.
Makes the alignment a bit more awkward but the results are much better.

Off the top of my head, the 16mm film is right side up in the gate but left-right flipped when looking at it from the front. TRV16 does not have this issue since the camera is on the other side of the film. The MoviePro app can flip it vertically (horizontal axis) but cannot fix the left to right flip.
I generally fix this in the post but had a raw footage posted on this one. Its been a while since I looked at this so may not be 100 percent accurate on everything I said.
