One of my friends in England ran into an issue with his retro-8 machine and got a bunch of boards made somewhere. The boards did not work and he sent them to me. I fixed the boards and now the unit works. I looked at the design and it is very interesting. The film is being pulled continuously and a blue led used to register the perforation holes and send the trigger signal. The camera grabs the frames as the film runs continuously and does not not impact the image quality since the main led is very bright and the exposure very short. Additionally, the trigger signal is used to ensure constant film speed at the gate by throttling the takeup motor voltage.
The main controller board is based on Atmega 168 processor and the board supplier contact is:
(contact Randy)
Very nice guy and responded to my inquires very fast.
I will post some schematics and board layouts shortly.
BTW - my friend may have extra machines - will check with him.
