No question, this is one of the simplest ways of getting the homemade project done and still have good quality scans and stay within budget. For people going this route and reluctant of using the RPI it can be done with some DSLRs that can override the mechanical shutter or use custom camera firmware such as Magic Lantern for Canon cams. I did that with my Mark2 using the ML firmware and Laowa micro lens and got very good results.
