  • Magnasonic FS81 jittery scan

Hello, I have the Magnasonic FS81 and the scans are really jumpy. The manufacturer support site says it could be the SD card, not having film secured under the tabs or bad sprocket holes on the film, but I've checked all of these and that is not the issue. I ran the same film on a Wolverine Pro and it was not jumpy at all.

Anyone else having that issue or figured out how to mitigate?

Thank you all for your help and for so much great information!

    Hi Deb,
Have you tried any other clip with that unit or is this the first one?
Jitter may be caused by several issues:
    - Damaged film -- probably not the cause since it works ok with the other unit
    - film would too tight
    - gate cover tension
    - takeup clutch spring tension (you can stop the takeup wheel for a while manually to check this)
    - worn out claw mechanism -- can try aluminum duct tape fix

Thank you, Stan! I didn't see those posts! The Magnasonic is only a few months old, but maybe it needs an overhaul already. Since there's basically no customer support from the manufacturer I've got nothing to lose tearing it apart. I may be able to add digital transfer tinkerer to my resume soon.

      Thank you so much!

A new job opportunity for you Deb.
Before you dismantle it try the paper trick.
        https://www.wolverinedata.com/faqs
        Go to the following question:

My film cannot advance or the output is jittery

        It may help.

Thanks, Stan! I'll fold some paper before I start taking out screws, losing 2 out of 3, cursing, then donating the whole thing to the thrift store.

Update: The paper wedged under the top plate helped quite a bit after I monkeyed around with where to place it without the lid popping up. I'll keep playing around with it. Thanks again for your help!
