  • Transferring from analog 16mm MagFilm to digital files.

I have (2) 1200' spools of Magfilm on cores which contain some sync sound from an old college film project that I never completed.
I had a line on a Siemans 16mm Interlock machine but I got outbid by a few dollars. I'm just wondering if anyone on the forum can digitize the Magfilm and send me .mp3 files and I don't need the Magfilm spools back after they are captured to digital so there is no return shipping cost.

    Hi!

There are also some companies that offer such a transfer, e.g.

Thank you for the referrals. Are there any in the USA?

Hi Kim, is this 16mm film with a magnetic soundtrack? I use to have a Elmo trv that transferred optical and magnetic film to another format unfortunately it went dark a sold it for parts if you know of anybody that has one these have an audio output that one could connect to a computer to save the file. they look like the one pictured. From his original post it sounds like fullcoat 16mm mag film.

It is full coat. I currently have an Elmo TRV-16 that Stan and I are restoring. I thought briefly about trying to run the fullcoat on it but I think that the projector would just tear the fullcoat to shreds. I got a referral on another thread to a place in MA that can transfer fullcoat 16mm.

Hey Jim, It's a shame that you sold your TRV-16 because Stan is going to be selling a raspberry pi kit with a global shutter hd camera that turns those old Elmo's into a nice HD Telecine.

I'm not sure that the fullcoat track will be at the edge whenre a 16mm mag sound track is so I doubt you would get any output on that anyway.

I've captured audio from fullcoat through a Bauer 16mm M/O projector without any problem.
