  • Thoughts about the color problem

I hope I'm not laughed at too hard, but I can't help thinking about if anything more can be done about eastman fade. As everyone knows, filters are only a band-aid and not a real solution. From what I've heard, Alberto's process works wonders. But is everyone sure that nothing else can restore colors, or have they all not felt it a big enough priority to take it further ?
I was starting to look up papers that are supposed to explain how the dye is formed. I'm afraid they are way over my head. I was just trying to see what dye was used since it is referred to being organic. Not a dye you would think of as being inorganic like cobalt or ochre. How is LPP so different so it keeps it's color ? I read somewhere a photo chemist said the layer is still on the film but it just went clear because the ions went unstable. Does this layer have a molecular signature that could be stained like a microscope slide or be induced to reform by some other chemical process ? I know this is probably a complex question for a general knowledge venue, but I want to start somewhere. It would be easier if I could picture in my mind how it works then to be able to decode long molecular abbreviations. I don't know if this is where open source type knowledge can come into use. What a nice world it would be if it can be figured out. It could be applied to Alberto's process and be made a complete solution. Then we can find a cure for vinegar. Maybe I should be put away ?

Alberto has a really good color restoration process, if the color hasn't dissipated too much. I was amazed as to how good of a job it did on my Grizzly Adams print.
