Has anyone here bought films from Stuart Reid?

Nearly two months ago I purchased a print of Some Like It Hot on the 16mm Sale/Trade/Wanted forum from the aforementioned seller. The post I found it on was quite old, but I emailed him and he said he still had the print, so I sent him the proper amount and he confirmed that he got my payment. Alas, he hasn't said anything else since then despite numerous follow-up messages on my behalf; I still haven't received the tracking number or the print itself.

Does anyone who has previously dealt with him know if there is a good reason for his sudden disappearance, or have I simply fallen for a scam? I've made the unfortunate mistake of following his instructions and paying through PayPal's "friends and family" option, so I doubt I'll be getting any sort of refund (provided he is indeed a scammer).

Hi Robin,

Stuart is definitely one of the good guys, so no worries about the outcome! If it is taking such a long time to hear back from him, then that is not great, but I am sure there is a valid reason for it. I'll check in on him.

Robin - I am very surprised you are having a problem with Stuart. I can't recall if I have ever bought anything from him, but he is a very well known member of the British super 8 community. I have met him at the Blackpool convention on several occasions, but admittedly not recently. He is also a member of this forum so I would advise you to send him a private message. The last time he contributed to it was in October.

To answer your concern...... no, this will NOT be a scam. There may be an unforseen reason for the problem. As I said, send a private email via this forum and see what happens.

Stuart is a nice person to deal with. I've bought a few films off him and all arrived fine. Prices were very good. However as I found out Stuart is a very busy man and can sometimes forget to send out the films but a quick email came with an apology and he quickly sent out the films. Hopefully this is what has happened here.

I bought a few Super 8 films from Stuart earlier this year and all went fine. I paid by the same method as you. I just hope Stuart is okay. He's a decent guy.

UPDATE: Stuart gave me a refund for the print as he is now unable to ship it. It's a shame I wasn't able to procure the film, but there's always hope another one will show up someday. This was also a great lesson to never pay for things through the "friends and family" option on PayPal, since I've read reports of actual scammers elsewhere in the film community.
