  • Christmas Movie Time...Again!

I thought it was time to talk about all our favorite Christmas movies well be watching (Any format) this holiday season!

I'll be honest, this Christmas sneaked up on me, but I think I'll be making some time this weekend to watch SCROOGED!

What movies will you be easing into the holidays with?

    Hi Lincoln,

Mine will be two really nice prints of Babes In Toyland-Laurel & Hardy and Nightmare Before Christmas. Those will get the holidays going for me

Traditionally it has always been the 1935 Christmas Carol or the 1951 version but this year I am thinking of Nativity 1 or 2. having had to witness so many over the years from children and grandchildren. It will be nice to get my own back when they all come to visit us over the Cristmas period😉

I have a 16mm film called Christmas in Germany: a Story of Giving. It's about a young girl living in Nuremberg who discovers that her elderly neighbor is going to be alone on Christmas and decides to make her a gift to lift her spirits. It is set mainly in and around the Nuremberg Christmas Market.

This is a film that might not mean a lot to many people, but my wife, my son and I spent Christmas 2018 in Germany with our family there and we went to many of these markets: Heidelberg, Mannheim, Speyer and then Munich. The memories are still with us!

We are doing a show for friends this month: film shorts followed by a Mannheim Steamroller Christmas Concert projected digitally. This will be one of the films we lead off with.

True to the spirit of the Weihnachtsmärkte, my wife is making Glühwein! (-Even if we are indoors, we've got to keep our audience "warm"!)

My Christmas show will be A Walt Disney Christmas, T&J The Night Before Christmas, followed by A Christmas Carol with Alastair Sim. All Super 8. Once again this year, I have been unsuccessful in procuring a copy of Mickey’s Christmas Carol, but I live in hope.

We usually have a Super 8 film show around the 18th December. This year it will be Mickeys Christmas Carol, The Snowman, Santa’s Workshop, The Night Before Christmas, all Derann. Plutos Christmas Tree Disney WDHM, The Night Before Christmas Tom& Jerry and Mickey Plays Santa (Mickey’s Orphans) a Film Office print.

All are in great condition and a pleasure to view on the big screen in glorious Super 8.

I haven't got around to watching the 3D version of "The Polar Express" as yet, it would be interesting to here what you think of it, today, down at the park I was speaking to a family about 35mm and just happen to mention "Madagascar Penguins in Christmas Caper" as one short on a 2000 foot reel, without hesitation they sat down, as if to right lets see it. I had to add that I need to thread the projector up first and switch things on. I was hoping to get other work done, but when folk sit down I had no choice but to follow through and screen it. I must admit it does look good on 35mm they certainly enjoyed it

Anyway this is a video short of screening "The Polar Express" I put together seven years ago, junior has grown up a bit since then

The Derann Super 8 print of The Madagascar Penguins Christmas Caper is just amazing, with incredible sharpness, deep blacks, really beautiful saturated color, and stereo sound. Looks just like 35mm IMO.

Graham, the 3D version of Polar Express has a few good scenes that benefit from 3D, but overall it is distracting at times, and having to wear the glasses gets old. I found that the 3D version of The Young And Prodigious T.S. Spivet that you reviewed was a better 3D experience.

I keep forgetting about Christmas Caper at Christmas. Must put that right this year.

Paul, yes it is indeed a stunning print. About as good as super 8 gets.
