When I started thinking about favorite actors over the decades, there were too many to list. So I looked at an IMDB list of best films by decades and came up with two actors that stood out:

          Favorite actors over the decades:
Humphrey Bogart - Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon
Ian McKellen - Lord of the Rings (all)

And here is the list of favorite films and actors by decades:

List of favorite films by decades
          1930's
The Wizard of Oz - Judy Garland

          1940's
          Citizen Kane - Orson Welles
          Casablanca - Humphrey Bogart
The Maltese Falcon - Humphrey Bogart

          1950's
          Vertigo - James Stewart
On the Waterfront - Marlon Brando
Singin' in the Rain - The entire cast, but Debbie Reynolds stand out.

          1960's
To Kill a Mockingbird - Gregory Peck

          1970's
Taxi Driver - Robert De Niro

          1980's
          Blade Runner - Harrison Ford

          1990's
Pulp Fiction - Samual L Jackson
The Shawshank Redemption - Morgan Freeman

          2000's
Lord of the Rings (all) - Ian McKellen

          2010's
          Drive Ryan - Gosling

Notably absent over the decades: Star Wars. Favorite actors there would be Alec Guiness and James Earl Jones. The other actors did there jobs, but none gave there best performance in Star Wars. But what about Harrison Ford? He did better work as Indiana Jones in my opinion.

                Charlie,

Thank you! I never thought to look up who played Gort, but your post made me curious about Mr. Martin.
