  • A new curiosity...

I've ran into something new with eBay. I will get a email from eBay, in this case, an Blu-ray, UHD of "It's a Wonderful Life". The email says 9.99. I click on it, it goes to ebay, but it's magically changed to 19.95, with no bids. I switched back to the email, yep, it clearly says 9.99. What's even more curious about this, is that this is the second time, with this same auction, that it's done this. In the old days, this would have been called the "bait and switch" game, which, by the way, is illegal, except with prices instead of merchandise. Have any of you ran into this as of yet?

    Hi!
Same currency? Same VAT/other taxes/customs? With shipping included on eBay and without in the eMail? Or did the seller simply noticed his typo in the price after putting the article online, fixing it a few seconds later, but after eBay automatically sent you that eMail (=these notifications are only available/visible for the potential buyer)?

No, this is twice on the same buyer and auction, so the curiosity is with eBay itself. One mistake can be overlooked, but when that same mistake is made, weeks later, on the same auction, THAT is most suspicious.

I've also heard where there are two different Ebay accounts within the same household and a proxy bid against true bidders who want the item to drive up the cost although this exact problem might not have anything to do with what's written above

Whenever it sounds too good to be true I stay away from it

Osi, I use Amazon for any new purchases here in the u k. but am quite happy with dvds as the player or the projector upscales them to Blu-ray definition. We also still have shops in many towns that still stock the new releases.

AFAIK, price in the email is static. That is the price that seller put at the first time. When the seller revises the price, price in email will keep with the old one.

And when you clicked it has a new higher price on it. It happened to me many times.

Ahhh, Winbert, that actually makes sense. So, with any specific auction, if it involves the same auction and item, ebay automatically generates an email without any corrections on pricing, just sends out the first one again? At the least, ebay should, within they're system, make sure that the price and details are the same. That being said, ebay sells, perhaps, hundreds of thousands of items every day.

No.. Ebay send the email to you with the price when it was listed the very first time. Since the price is static (not linked to ebay server), when the seller revised the price your email remained the same.

I think the seller realized this loopholes and using it as a strategy to click bait people who are interested with this item and has put it on their save list. That is the reason the price is 9.99 to 19.99 which many would not see the diferrrence. Just my rough guess anyway.
