Thought I better start it as a separate thread as mentioned elsewhere, that I have been following the news of this particular ship of late, this video is very good, but do you know the music that has been added? I think its a shame that something better than sinking her, could have come with.

There are several interesting videos that tour the ship after it had been stripped in preparation for the sinking. In one that runs about a hour they show the ship's theater. All that was left was the stage and you can see the projection room portholes in the back.
Too bad that is was neglected for three decades. I assume that the only choices left after that was to scrap it, of sink it. I expect that it will be become a destination for divers to explore.

The World’s Largest Artificial Reef coming to Destin-Fort Walton Beach!
Once deployed off Destin-Fort Walton Beach, at nearly 1,000-feet long, the SS United States will be a home for a diverse range of marine life and attract divers and anglers from around the world. The purchase of the SS United States will continue the growth of Destin-Fort Walton Beach’s robust artificial reef program, the most active, and one of the largest vessel artificial reef collections in the United States. The County is actively working in close collaboration with the U.S. Coast Guard and other agencies to ensure this magnificent vessel is safely moved which requires multiple planning procedures, approvals, documentation and consideration of the weather and tides. Check back here for updates and follow the SS United States as she journeys from Philadelphia, PA to her final home.

At least it’s safe, unlike the ship which sunk off Sheerness, disintegrating and still full of live ammunition and too dangerous to move!!. Is an artificial reef really going to attract wild life only to be killed by divers and anglers etc good for the environment. I doubt David Attenborough would think so !

I am surprised no picked out the music in the above video as it was well known "Raise The Titanic" score by John Barry the film certainly one of the best sellers onto Super 8. I have added this photo of both ships of the "United States Lines" the SS United States and the SS America passing each other, note the funnels of both ships, she was later to be known as the Australis.
