  • Anyone from Germany can confirm shipping by DHL / Hermes can be this cheap?

Hello all, especially those from Germany.

As I now live in Bulgarian (part of EU) it is my time to look after my other hobbies. This makes me looking around at Discogs to develop my vinyl collection. The worst thing with collecting vinyl is not every shop will have what we like. So I have to buy from several different shops resulting high shipping cost since they are sent from many different places.

But I just get in touched with a seller in Germany.. quite a large shop with hundreds of thousand LPs. What shock me he said that the shipping cost for 20 LPs or more will remain EUR 14.90 sent to Bulgaria. 20 LPs is about 6 kg .. and more..

    (1) Is that true that DHL (or Deutsche Post) or Hermes will allow that heavy shipment at flat cost like that?

    (2) if that is correct until how heavy is the limit?

    (3) Does it apply to LP (or perhaps books) only as the policy used by the USPS for shipping media mail within the US land?

    (4) Does the size of packing matter? (ps: 20 LPs needs a 35cm x 35cm x 6cm box)

    Thanks
    winbert

Prices for dhl are cheapest when using the app (Bulgaria has been selected destination - it looks like 14,90€ = 2kg maximum):

But there are also special rebates for companies. So when it’s a professional seller with an online shop, he might be able to ship 5kg for that price - or maybe even more as the LPs are „small“ compared to other items.

Prices from Hermes - I added a few centimeters for the packaging (there’s no other weight-dependent price; prices are the same for all items with longest side + smallest side < 50cm):

          Thanks Joerg for the input.

As this is a big shop and have been doing the business quite a long time, it might have the rebates you meant.

I currently put in my cart about 15 LPs and the shipping cost does not change (it remains EUR 14.90)

I wish that will not change upon cheking-out, so I can utilise this shop to develop my vinyl collection. This shop has hundreds of thousands stocks and it would not possible for me to browse all in one hit.

Now, I wish there is a similar store for audio equipments 😃

          Cheers,
          Winbert

            Hi Winbert,
If the shop is (recordsale.de) from experience they offer an excellent service. Over the years I have ordered many LPs from them, and there has never been a problem. Everything is just as it is advertised in regards of condition, and the service is fast and professional.
They must have one of the largest collections of vinyl music on the planet.

No it is from Discogs. But I have visited the link you gave... and indeed it is answering my question. They have a flat rate €15.90 from 1 to unlimited!!

I don't know how DHL deals with 999 LPs ( = 300kg) with only € 15.90!!. It needs 15 boxes of 20kg. Even to upload those boxes to truck will need a serious effort.

Any way thanks for the hint!

When ordering 999 LPs, they will simply make enough profit to pay the shipping costs for you.

Some online shops here in Germany have indeed a rather strange calculation for shipping costs:
E.g. when your order is below 50€, then you’ll pay weight based shipping. From 50€ to 100€ you‘ll pay a fixed amount (that is lower than some of the weight based prices). And above 100€, you’ll pay nothing.
