  • Why Did "Movie Trailer" Voice Overs Disappear

Have you ever wondered where the dramatic 'Movie Trailer" narration went.

It was a staple in the 80s and 90s, but now it's nowhere to be found ?

    See this amazing Doco.

There are still trailers with voice over (even though most of them are now quotes from the film= no separate narrator that only occurs in the trailer), e.g.:

The main reason is (IMHO) that the studios are now generating several different trailers for each movie in different lengths - all of them provided digitally to the audience. No need to produce and distribute prints anymore. And in order to be faster (and cheaper), they are simply skipping the narrators, adding missing sentences as text, e.g. like the „Eine neue Ära … bricht an“ (a new era is about to begin) in JW4:

The golden voice of Don Lafontaine can still be heard on many super 8 trailer reels.
