Current program in German cinemas

Hi!

That’s the current plus next week’s program of a nearby multiplex - an impressive number of different productions:

But that’s what is left when removing all sequels, prequels, remakes, spinoffs, … :

Is this just a coincidence (vacation time plus choice of the cinema‘s management)? Or is this a general phenomenon that the majority of productions these days are simply „nothing new“?

(yes, there are also „arthouse cinemas“ in Germany that show a completely different program - they even still show documentaries)

It is no coincidence. It is the general trend with the multiplexes here as well. Fortunately many of the smaller or independent cinemas have a much more varied programs of new original productions, many being based on real life experiences or best selling authors. They are not particularly “art house” or documentaries. Many have done well in the BAFTA awards.
