  • First ever Cine/ theatrical commercials?

What were the first ever commercials? I'm sure that Shorty can pin point exactly what is the first known theatrical commercials, ( not necessarily trailers, mind you), but I'll put in my vote for Mutual Films. At the end of many of the Mutual comedies of the silent era, there would a 5 to ten second commercial for Mutual comedies. It consisted of a clock with its hands spinning rapidly, with a catch phrase of "Time Flies With Mutual". Wonderfully so, many of the Blackhawk super 8/standard 8mm prints have this little snippet at the end of the comedy

It looks like there have already been commercials in the 1920s:

This YouTube video claims that the first trailer was released in 1913:

No idea, whether this is correct.

According to this article, 1912 is the birth of the trailers in the USA:
                https://mediarep.org/server/api/core...7eefc8/content
Each episode of „What happened to Mary?“ (Edison productions) contains a hint about the next episode at the end of the current episode.
Whether there have been European or other Non-US trailers before 1912, is unclear.

BTW: The article mentions some more early trailers. In some cases it’s unclear whether the episodes/trailers have been produced in 1912 or 1913. Hence that Edison-production is only the first „known for sure“ case.
