Coming up to ten years since the place closed. About two months ago I was contacted by the projectionist featured in this video, now married and running his own electrical contract business, and doing very well. It was really great to catch up and reminisce Cinemas are unique places that's for sure, we talked about the Movieland ghost, and yes there actually was one, I wonder where it is now? ...they were good times

Wow Graham, another great video posting and a thoroughly enjoyable watch! How I envied the young man going about his work in the projection-room like a veteran of the industry 😊

I found the ending very sad and could only think that other than for reasons of economic efficiency and expediency, all of that destruction was such a waste.

Of course digital is here until it too is replaced by something even more removed from where this all started some 125 or so years ago - but as Charles Chaplin once said (presumably commenting on the advent of television) "not all technology is necessarily a good thing."

It was only a few years ago that people used to say that we lived in a society where people wanted 'everything today' - now it seems that has moved on to wanting 'everything tomorrow, but delivered yesterday'!

I like that 'scope lens mount Graham!

-the next time I have to stand there mounting my regular ones on with a thumbscrew I'll wish I had it!

The problem I see is the general loss of public spaces like this!

Kids in my son's generation do all their hanging out on the internet...

-when we finally end all human contact will the lack of resulting babies drive us extinct?😲

        Thanks Ali

        Steve

I took a couple of photos of our grandchildren visit a couple of weeks ago......I think it sums thing up.

I wonder if there is some sort of device I can get that "jams" it up, could also be fun to use in the food court at the mall, just to see the reaction

A little hobby during my retirement

I would think a large spark generator that emitted radio waves of all frequencies would do it! It could be very dangerous and get you arrested though. At home a Faraday screen around the house.

I work in a building with a steel roof: it wipes out cell data, completely dead.

-my cellphone is basically a fancy paperweight once I'm at work!

Sounds like it would have been just the job for Heddy Lamarr - after all she did invent a 'jamming signal' to interrupt the German's radar-operators in WWII 😉

Ah - but then again out of that....came to the genesis for Bluetooth technology 🙄
