He directed and narrated one of our favorite features: A River Runs Through It, which is beautiful and emotionally rich. It's a lot more relatable to the lives of ordinary people than many movies out there these days. It's just a story about a family with issues, like a great many families.

It bears the mark of a film that has made an impression on me: after I saw it, I read the book!

That’s shocked me… probably my all time favourite actor!😢
So many great movies but my all time personal favourite of his is without doubt…” The Natural”… superb movie - fabulous supporting cast and music too! I never tire of watching it… followed closely by “ Three Days of the Condor”.

We won’t see his likes again..🥲

The Sting and The Way We Were are among my favorites. He was a great actor and a great director and did so much to promote the art of film. He will be missed.

I enjoyed all of his films, but looking back, Jeremiah Johnson is the one I have re-watched the most.

Many impressive films, however I'll probably watch A Walk in the Woods again in the next couple of days. Sometimes a weak script shows just how much charisma, star power and talent an actor has.

I just had to get my cut down of Butch Cassidy out to watch after hearing the news. Eastmancolor, a bit brown but all the colours are there. Pity it was a UK print as it has negative damage and is just over 95 metres long, but worth watching.

Once again: A really great book!

I have a paperback copy of A Walk in the Woods, and I love it! There are certain outdoor books written by people who are way overqualified to be relatable to ordinary human beings!

-You have some guy who Olympic Gold-Medaled in cross country skiing who's carrying an $8,000 hiking staff: of-COURSE, he's going to complete the Appalachian Trail! -he may just get up to Mount Katahdin first of all the hikers that year, and then decide to hike back down to Georgia for the fun of it!

NO, I say! The world doesn't need that book! The book we need is two out-of-shape guys who have absolutely no business trying, making a colossal mess out of this grand adventure! A Walk in the Woods fills this need exactly!

A Walk in the Woods completely destroyed any pretense I ever had of through hiking the A.T.! Who knows, that paperback may just have saved my life!

I lent my copy out to people who are interested in hiking. During our first trip to Europe, my wife read it and started asking "Did they make it?!" I told her "Nope! You can't skip ahead like Bryson and Katz did! It's a journey and you've got to finish it honestly!"

I have the disk too, Robert Redford and Nick Nolte were maybe a little....advanced in years to be Bryson and Katz, but it did catch the spirit of the book.

So sorry to hear of his passing, he was not just a brilliant actor, but also a person you really respected.

I have always enjoyed his movies Butch 1969 of coarse was his big one. The Great Waldo Pepper 1975 as with Jeremiah Johnson from 1972. Two more recent films he starred in, was the remake of Pete's Dragon 2016 which I think is a pretty good movie, but the one you should watch, or should I say a must watch, is All Is Lost 2013. All the above titles plus others are available on Blu-ray and certainly worth watching,

He was a good actor, but my favorite film he was in, he was the director, and did the commentary/voiceover throughout the film, "A River Runs Through it", an absolutely lovely film!

He was one of one of the American film industries greatest assets and quite a hard act to follow. A good “all rounder”.
