  • This has nothing to do with films ....

Man, am i out of touch with this modern world ...

I decided to start looking for regular, outside of the home, work (my ebay sales have tanked as well as other online sales), and most local jobs don't even do good old fashioned applications.

So, I go online to fill out applications, but on nearly all online businesses these days, before you can even fill out an application, you have to have some form of "relationship" with the company, so you have to., with nearly every employer, make a username and password, just to look at opportunities.

Now, you finally get a chance to look at the business, but before you can fill out the application, you have to see if the business has any job opportunities at you're town, so you look thru that. 9 times out 10, there are no actual jobs in you;'re town, so it won't even allow you to do an application.

Then, the few that will allow you to do an application, if you have a "wonky" address (like i do) will state, "this is not valid address" and won't even let you continue the application ... period.

For all of you film collectors that are retired ... i TOTALLY ENVY you!

Sorry to hear about your employment woes Osi. Just a thought...You might try using a more conventional address of a friend or relative on the application. Most likely the business will only contact you by phone or email if interested. That would at least get you through the application process.

When I left school at 15 years old, what I did and I feel its still true to this day and that is to knock on doors. I spent weeks walking the streets of Glasgow doing just that, for the most part people will say we will let you no, but there is always a chance your timing with a employer is right, as many cant be bothered to advertise. It also shows that you have made an effort to get out there and are keen to work.

Although times have changed and its all done through the internet, there is still nothing wrong with that knock on door approach, you have nothing to lose. Funny thing the other day at the mall I was offered a job doing the dishes at Muffin Break. I replied I just did a pile at home before I came out ha ha. The chap that run it said back, well that makes you qualified for the job.....no thanks I will just have my coffee

Anyway Oz all the best, but my advice make it face to face and hope for the best, remember the saying....its the squeaky wheel that gets most of the attention...be that squeaky wheel

I thought of that Janice, but I really don't want my mail going elsewhere. I just have a fairly "wonky" address.

Hi Osi sorry to hear of the troubles. Some of the things in this world seem intent on making life as difficult as possible for us all in one way or another.
My parents when they were around used to tell me they didn't really recognise England as things had changed in day to day life over a 90+ year life span, I guess they were right in so many ways. Really hope you find a way Osi.
