Wooden movie projector that works!

I got an amazing Christmas present from my daughter -the ROKR VITASCOPE FILM PROJECTOR - a working wooden movie projector assembled from wood templates. The thing is quite large, about 10 ins high, and has a built in generator for the bulb, and a focusing lens. Comes complete with 56 frame loop of 35mm film animation. Can't wait to start building it!

After Yvonne spoke to my son Steven about this a couple of days ago, he stated, if you get one, I will build it. Both Steven and my grandson Connor, can spend hours doing this kind of stuff. I unfortunately, don't have the patience or a clue how to do this kind of thing so for me its is a non starter. When we went out shopping the other day, we did have a look for one, and there it was on the shelf. Yvonne dropped it into Stevens place, and told me later he appeared to be in his element. Its not a easy one I gather, but for a person with the right mindset "not me" I am sure it will be a challenge

So folks if you are making it up, do post some photos etc. Steven did say it comes with some film and by turning it, it can generate a little bit of light as well.

It certainly looks like a kit where you read the assembly instructions several times before you even start it.

And since posting that I have found that despite an email saying mine would be delivered tomorrow I had a form through my letterbox saying it was left behind my wheelie bin (and an email saying it had been "handed to the customer" when I checked after). Thankfully it was still there when I checked. More news when I have started on its construction.

Well that was a surprise, a knock on the door this morning with Steven holding a completed projector. I never expected it that quick, he started it at 10pm last night and finished it at 3am. A total of five hours, I could not believe it, that would have taken me years if not longer. I asked, was it hard?, not really was his reply.

I have been playing with it today, and I must say the detail of the wooden workings is just amazing and it does work when you turn it. It has drum shutter, just like the bigger version on the Ernemann 2

Just like you, Graham, this would be a "not on your life" decision if I as expected to build it. But like Ali says.... it would look great as a display piece, fully constructed by someone else!

Just thought..... an opportunity for your sons to earn a little pocket money perhaps?
