If you are doing it yourself hope cat is getting pain relief. There are some serious topics not many serious collectors. It has improved. If you don’t believe me go to the archive and search Martians Land in Rosies Toilet for proof that sniffing thermofilm was a recreational drug in the past.

Most of it is but this is "General Yak" section so, politics excluded, it covers everything serious film collectors want to talk about, inlcuding humour and supporting each other.

I think that having something like a General Yak is a natural step in the development of any specialized forum like this.

Let's face it: we're human beings first and foremost. When you get a bunch of people into a social setting, they basically have to go off topic sooner or later, life is more complicated than just our hobbies (It should be). For example, When we go out to eat at CineSea, I'll give you odds the majority of the table talk is not about film collecting. Personally, I'd be troubled by somebody who talks about Blackhawk for 30 minutes but leaves out he became a Dad last month!

What General Yak does (among other things) is provide a safety valve for this kind of talk. This allows the format specific sections to stay more on topic. 15 years ago someone's birthday absolutely would have appeared in the 8mm section: it was the only choice!

As far as content goes, this entire forum is like radio: you tune around until you find stations you like and just don't tune in the others. In that respect it can be exactly what you need it to be.
