  • 8mm Forum Back Online!

    Hi Everyone,

For those of you who were in the dark about what happened to us, we were offline because many parts of Texas were also in the dark, literally. The Forum's server is based in Texas, which had been hit by powerful winter storms that caused widespread power outages throughout the entire state. It appears that the rolling power outages (intentional electrical power shutdowns implemented to avoid a total blackout) had caused the 8mm Forum’s database to be corrupted. We are now back (thank you Brad!), restored using a backup that was made on Sunday 2/14.

I apologize to those members who had no idea what was happening. Without access to the Forum, I had only about 80 email address (from previous contacts) that I could send updates to. I greatly appreciate the other forums that posted updates. Thank you!

If you are among the many that I was unable to contact, please make note of my email so that we can stay in touch.

I did post in a Facebook group that I thought it was server trouble as it went down, was up for a short time than failed again. Sad to think it was part of the weather trouble in Texas (or rather the whole weather thing was sad), but good to see it back.

Great to have the forum back on line - an essential part of my day! Well done Doug and Brad.
It is now backed up to Feb 14, does that mean we get two St Valentines days this year?

It just shows you how nature can still effect the modern (digital) world, when severe winter storms can be so bad that power grids are affected, which leads on to other things, like modern digital servers being disrupted, it shows we can't take anything for granted, even in these modern advanced days!

But boy is it good to have the forum back!

                            Well done, Brad and Doug.
                            Welcome back.
No day is complete without my visit to the Forum.
I've been passing the last few days showing some recently bought 16mm films.
