I just heard that the number missing has gone up from 99 to 159 - even worse news! Let's hope the attempts at rescue find as many as possible alive and that some others weren't actually in the building at the time and are just names on the list who have not make their location known yet.
The pictures of his have made me think of the Ronan Point collapse in London 1968 https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-44498608 which fell just as quickly. Thankfully then it was only the corner of the building that held kitchens and most people were still in bed when it happened. I wonder if the construction system was similar and I read that part of the ground it was on was sinking by 2mm a year for many years.

I know that all the facts are not in yet, it will be awhile, but having watched the video, it looks like an implosion and I wouldn't be surprised to sadly find out that a very disturbed person set off explosives, but our prayers are certainly with these victims, they're families and those that survived but are badly hurt.

Yes, the one in London was a gas explosion from a leak in a kitchen. Maybe the same thing happened there and the stress in the building from the subsidence did the rest.

It appears that a 2018 inspection of the building highlighted "a major error" in the original design.

Thats correct Maurice, it was on the news here today, it seems, (as it sadly often does), that experts warnings a few years ago were ignored. We see this quite often after major disaster's.

And now they are seeing fires in the rubble, possible due to fuel in the cars parked in the basement, which are hindering work to find survivors.
