  • Tom & Jerry. Have you been disturbed or distressed?

Just a question for you, have you ever been disturbed or distressed in any way buy a Tom & Jerry cartoon?

I'm NOT asking to discuss in great length any particular content, but i though I'd ask for simple yes or No's on this.
Back in the 70s, early 80s, people use to ask for T&J cartoons to be banned due to what they called, (in the media yet again) violence. Nowadays, there are other concerns so i just wondered with a yes or no answer, have you ever been distressed/disturbed or upset watching a Tom & Jerry cartoon?
And i am aware that some have been "modified" to correct certain things.

Personally, i havnt, i think they are still one of, if not, the funniest cartoons ever made. I've seen some of the new ones and find them ridiculous, so PC.

    No.

Not by the content anyway. The fading of a print is another matter.

I get distressed every time. It is caused by the pain in my stomach after laughing so much!

            Animation par excellence!

Tom you just think you are NOT disturbed or distressed by watching Tom& Jerry. Really you want to hit people with a frying pan or lead pipe with immunity like I do 🤪.

Remember watching Operation Burma with my brother and afterwards me or him decided I could paratroop without a parachute out of a 2nd floor loft door. I bounced well in those days so film does influence you.

I think the days of Classic Tom & Jerry Tex Avery and Warner bros cartoons on mainstream television are well and truly over.

Watch this space within the next decade there will be book /film burnings and it will be an offence by law to own un pc material in film/dvd/Blu ray.

                Times and attitudes do change.

I have the following which I love, but many might not. It's a personal choice.

                You're a Sap Mr. Jap - 1942 Popeye
Coal Black and de Sebben Dwarfs - 1943 Warner Bros Merry Melodies series
His Mouse Friday - 1951 Tom & Jerry

Violence is the seasoning of cartoons! Without it they would all be Casper the Friendly Ghost!

-you take the violence out of Road Runner and all you have is a stupid wild dog and the bird he can't catch!

(That doesn't even work as a nature documentary...)

No for me. If we watch today's cartoon like Ren and Stimpy or Itchy and Scratchy (a short clip often included in the Simpsons episodes) then Tom & Jerry is nothing based on today's standard. 😅

Like all of you, I have the good sense to realize, of all things, that it's not reality, just a cartoon. The same crowd of do gooder morons tried, unsuccessfully, to get rid of the Bugs Bunny show on Saturday mornings or the Three Stooges in the afternoon.

Mom never let me watch the Stooges when I was little: said it made me hit my sister!

-NOT true! My sister made me hit my sister!

By the way:This was braver than it sounds. She was 6 years older than me! (Still is!)

Of course I can watch all I want now...kind of a guilty pleasure!
