The forum you are looking at is entirely new software. Because there was no good way to import all of the old archived data from the last 20 years on the old software, everyone will need to register for a new account to participate.

In this forum mailbox, how do we know that our mail is read?
But seriously.....The only notification regarding PM's is the option to "Receive Email Notification of new Private Messages". I have searched the vBulletin options and there is none that enables you to check if your PM has been read.
