    Phil,

I don't believe that was Lee's intent. To me, he was merely pointing out that you are a relatively recent member and may not be aware that the General Yak section was added to this Forum back in 2004. Since then, in addition to the areas of interest that you mentioned, we have celebrated births, birthdays, marriages, retirements, vacations and other joyous occasions of life. We have also sent our condolences to those who have lost loved ones and offered our best wishes for a speedy recovery to those members who had to deal with illness. Our hobby has connected us and as Osi said, we do care about each other. I fully expect this to continue as long as this Forum exists.

Mike is quite right about vitamin D. I boosts the immune system, particularly in the winter months when there is less sunlight evidently. Fortunately, my "better half" is an ex health professional, started off as a nurse, worked hard for may years for the N.H.S. Don't knock it Tom its the envy of the world. Unfortunately, like all public service jobs, whenever there is a pay rise it is an "across the board percentage" so the differential between the lowest paid and the highest gets wider everytime. Every ten years or so the pay scales will be altered and a little levelling up will occur. I could make further comments but this forum is not the place to discuss politics. Ken Finch.

Yes Ken, Vitamin D does work. In regards to NHS there is bad and there is good as in all organisations.

Doug, I feel that was Lee’s intent and that he should be able to speak for himself. But anyway this could go back and forth forever, so let’s drop it. It is however a shame when a forum has members who hold court over others by nature of purely being long time members and are condescending to others when challenged.

100% agree Phil, much condescending i think,

one of my my threads has been closed, despite a large number of people who have viewed it and joined, before i could reply to Lee who said

"Or get mobbed to be something you do not want to be.
Missed the point to your mind Tom but not mine.
None of us were put on this earth to do what others want us to do"

Not sure where that statement came from ,you seriously have missed the point, it means nothing to what the thread was about, but i was clearly cut off from replying. I wasn't rude in any of my comments even though a member did call me something i am not and another member didn't like my polite reply. Thats fine though, nuf said.

                  -well worth it, Brian!

The last time I got the flu it was actually worse than when I had Covid-19 (The difference was the Flu was over with in three really awful days, but Covid lingered something close to ten fairly awful ones!)

I've gotten the Flu shot every year since.

It's also easy to forget that every year, the Flu kills several thousand people all by itself.

                    Good news Brian indeed.

As I oft say to myself happily. It's not often I'm right but I'm wrong again HA! It is indeed a gift to laugh at yourself and brightens our happy days.

Hi Phil. I don't see see any threat from old hands on here myself, all I do it sing sweetly about film and truly enjoy learning new things from others particularly the younger members who bring fresh ideas as we once were. Unfortunately and I'm not in anyway boasting have been at this for a wee bit you soon become a target on the net. Sad but true...
What little I know I try to help others with which in my teeny mind is a reely good feeling. I do however find it sad reading negative remarks when some are trying so hard to keep the hobby going.

GOOD NEWS! The super duper cold chest infection has gone.

Im trying to find negative remarks regarding the hobby, fortunatly i dont see too many, although i know a few topics that are film related do seem to hit a few people harder than intended.
regarding film collecting, it can and will rub people up the wrong way when collectors try and become dealers and sell trash for high sums of money on ebay and sting genuine collectors. I spoke to a well know dealer on the phone yesterday who told me of at least four ebayers, disguising themselves as dealers who are selling films knowing they are less than perfect.
This is one thing that will cause people to be negative on forums. Sometimes it isnt always easy to bite ones tongue.
What is negative to some, is a lively debate to others. Pleased to to your feeling better now.

Through the summer I had been feeling a little ill with a strange cold chest and funny stomach. However I recently started taking vitamin D-3 and Zinc and I must say how much more better I now feel with those symptoms hopefully gone. Its a pity that vitamins are not promoted more by the health organisations, as well as benefits of exercise, fresh fruit and so on. I do also take linseed oil, V3 and sunflower seeds.

When i talk to Drs or dietitians regarding vitamin pills, i am usually told that if your diet is any good you shouldn't need them.
They dont prevent colds and flu or any other virus's, they are not antibodies or anti virus's but they can help if your ill and not eating as a supplement. My Mother was old school and took cod liver oil for most of her life as well as other supplement pills and as far as cod liver oil is concerned, she is now riddled with arthritis, so much for that.
The companies that make it certainly made money out her for years on end. Sometimes i think its a mental thing, meaning that when we take a tablet for a cold or headache or other pains, we feel better because we took a pill.

                          Take a look at this,
                          https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8232232/

There have also been TV documentary's recently which look at how the populations of this world are coaxed into believing how wonderful supplement's are yet most are unproven.

I think i saw that documentary Tom, and true to form the actual scientists tell you if your diet is a stable and varied there are no need for supplements, as indeed the tests showed when volunteers tested no need to take the most popular tablets because they had plenty in there systems. I have just had my flu jab, because i am diabetic so likely to suffer the harmful effects, but flu is far more serious than people image, and according to my nurse " you would not be able to get out of bed if you had it". My approach is simple to keep you safe, certainly no close contact with anyone, no hand contact and wear a mask, i do it as a means of protecting myself and others. The only one who gains from the supplements are those selling them to you, coughs and sneezes spread diseases............

Thats exactly right Paul, keep a distance from people and hopefully we will all be ok. Antibiotics and antivirus medicines can help to cure but supplements dont stop infectious diseases. Stay safe shoppers
