    The guy was a genius and a really good director too. Think Silent running and Brainstorm are excellent.

      Ohhhh, such a loss for the industry! He didn't do it single handedly, but nearly so. Just look at his work, in so many films! To this day, films like Close Encounters still look just as fresh today as they did over 40 years ago! Rest in peace, great magician of the screen!

          It really wasn't until Star Wars and CE3K that I really believed in special effects. Whether we speak of Silent Running, Logan's Run or all the stop motion classics, l could always see the " seams" in between, but will Trumbull and a few others made a believer out of me and made special effects that really earned that name.

            He was a pioneer but apart from seeing thread on this forum I haven’t seen anything about his death in the media. There was a connection with Star Wars so you would have thought he would have been mentioned.
