  • More Prints than Projectors or vice versa?

Some prints arrived today and now I'm not sure if I have more projectors than prints or, the other way around. More projectors!

I did start with 1 projector and a dozen or so family films. All 50 footers both 8mm gauges. And a couple or so commercial prints.

Setting out on an tentative projector buying spee soon took the total number of projector past my print collection.

With this latest batch of film though, I'm not so sure!

I'll do a count but until then, what's your quotas like?

I've been in this hobby for more years than I care to remember, but Stuart has the worse case of the cine -bug that I have ever come across. As we all know the bug is totally incurable and the prognosis for Stuart is not good. There are no vaccines or booster shots, and wearing a mask offers no protection unless you cover your eyes. The WHO is sponsoring research, and there are preliminary reports from Sweden that partial remission is obtained for a few months by watching Columbia Digests (you know the ones with the obnoxious narrator) non stop for 24 hours, followed the next day by the total disassembly and reassembly of a GS1200. But there is currently no permanent cure, and the cine-bug is usually a lifelong affliction. When you start hearing the Columbia narrator in your dreams it's time to seek professional help.
We all wish Stuart the best..............

I guess I'm more a film collector than a projector collector, since I actually try to keep it to just a few good machines. There was a nice Eiki machine at CineSea a few times back: I felt the temptation, but let it go home with somebody else!

-but they are more than just a means of showing films. Every one of them I have has an origin story and history with me that makes them special. Even the two I have that are identical models about 600 serial numbers apart are very much individuals. One arrived basically worn out and I rebuilt it, one was mint in box, stored dead since the 1970s and I carefully revived it. -same DNA, very different lives!

I do appreciate the convenience and performance of modern home entertainment electronics, but the day some of it goes to the Big Screening Room in the Sky, I can't get misty over it, just go out and buy a better one, maybe cheaper by now! When one of my film projectors goes on the fritz, you might just find me with it opened up on the table at 2AM. (It's hard to lose an old friend!)

Well! This thread is certainly cheaper than therapy But the good news, I got a fantastic deal on some shelving units. I now have more space on my floor to put additional projectors

I don't have years of attachment and experience with any projector but they are all quite attached to me. They must only leave me in better condition than they arrived. None of this, "I don't have a cable to test!" malarkey! To be fair, most don't actually have a cable but some do use the excuse to sell electrical without comeback.

My collection thus far is mainly Eumig. From P26 to a 900 series. I think I have 4 Pathe Baby's. Agfa. A Family and 3 LS2's. Then the Bauer T430. Some Kodak and Bell & Howell's. Mostly old models but I do have a DCT. The Sankyo with anamorphic lens attached from Panchromatic.co.uk and our guy Nick.

Then possibly a Bolex or 2. 18-5. Maybe 7 or 8 Noris projectors. A Revere and my Ricoh. Think that's it.

Yes! See what you mean. I'll make an appointment tomorrow!

I nearly bought that Sankyo at Blackpool but managed to resist the temptation.

I have 2 Films. both 16mm Features, both colour, both about bird watching in remote places. I do however have a "storeroom" that is crammed with projectors. I am now in the state where I have no idea how many projectors there actually in there but there are definately well over a hundred. They range from projectors from the 1930's right up to the latest made. I sometimes dread what forgotton gem is on a shelf at the back.

I have it worse than Stuart, the original plan was to buy and service and then resell reconditioned projectors to bring in some "pocket money" and occupy my time, however real life got in the way and then I caught "Stuartitis" I see an individual projector or in some cases a collection - I buy it. The older the equipment the better.

I know I should stop buying and put more time into the servicing but then I come accross somebodys deceased relatives collection or an antique in a clearance sale and just have to give it a new home.

Its a bit like Battersea dogs home for projectors here.

I may have a short time cure for "Stuartitis", come down and spend a couple of days humping projectors out of the store, sorting them out and putting them back in some sort of order, by the time thats done you will be sick of the sight of them (for a while).

I have far more films than projectors, of course, but my concern is not how many projectors I have, but being able to keep the beggars running! Personally, I am wanting to find at least two of each kind that I have, just to keep a decent amount of spare parts for replacement, but I am always looking for a brand new version of all my projectors as, as a general rule, you find a brand new projector, you are pretty much in good running for quite awhile. The best projectors made, tended to be pretty good work horses, lasting for decades. After all, I am 56, and a good, brand new projector, at my age, will be good enough for my lifetime!

The humping offer sound nice Nick but I'll give it a pass as I do enough humping up'eer!

The Sankyo is a little gem complete with anamorphic lens. It was plug-n-play on arrival and as a guide to understanding the setup of compressed image playback, can't fault it. I actually made a booboo and bought a Bell & Howell CinemaScope Design 335B lens a while back. That'll do I thought. I'll let you know if that works when I get it through the front door! The Sankyo 702 is also a nice comparison to my B&H DCT.

It's nice to learn something new each day. I now know the name of my condition

Now, back to work as data crunching!

As of right now, I have one 16mm projector and two Super 8mm projector! As for prints, if you add up both gauges, I have around 10 full features in all and 4 digests.

At present if I had more projectors than prints I wouldn't be able to get into the house.
