  • Does this put you off?

On my regular searches for projectors on EBay I'm put off a bit when I see these beautiful machines photographed in someone's garden!
What the heck are these people thinking, exposing them to the elements, even for a minute?
I imagine that these sellers are either glad to be getting rid of their dead father's 'rubbish', or the wife has banned it from the house.
Either way not a good prospect, and doesn't encourage me to dig deep into my hard earned cash.
    What do you think?

    Hi Allan,

Actually, I can see doing it this way: outdoor lighting is often the best for getting nice images and would give the seller something more attractive to post in their sales. Obviously the key is choosing the best weather, not only for better lighting but for avoiding precipitation. I suppose avoiding high pollen times is a pretty decent idea too. Choice of background makes a big difference too: no compost piles or rusty garden tools or bags of manure, please!

I ran one of mine outdoors for about four hours once, but that was different. It hadn't been plugged into full input voltage in a couple of decades and I had a higher than average chance of blowing up an electrolytic capacitor. (I didn't want to stink up the house!)

If I was selling this machine, I'd choose a nicer background than an old picnic set and my firewood!
    -but I'd just bought it...

If there's any challenge for the bad product picture contest, I dare anyone else to beat mine.

I placed this projector on sale on the local online marketplace a few weeks ago. Of course I was too lazy to even move this out of the room. So I took these pics right on my work bench, completed with all THE MESS on the table!🤣🤣

Fortunately the buyer didn't mind the bad pics, and even agreed to pick up (in return I gave her a considerable discount). In the end it's a win-win situation IMHO.

Film shows in the garden is a great idea, but I get a little put off when I see items for sale strewn across the driveway.
If it can't be displayed indoors, where has it been kept all these years?

-sure! It is all about presentation. -no driveways!

I saw an eBay picture once where a projector was literally in front of an open bathroom door, with all domestic plumbing apparatus visible!

This probably says more about the attention to detail of the seller than the item itself.

-you just might receive your fragile, heavy item padded with wadded-up newspaper! (-it's happened to me...)

Nantawat, of course you meant no wrong, but according to what I have read on the internet about scammers, sometimes they can get all the information to scam you, just out of information they can "glean" from pictures we post, especially when we take photos in our home, so it really is best to "stage" you're photos, just to protect your identity, because, you never know who's watching.

I've read descriptions such as "cassette" (reels) and/or "tape" (film)!

what is next? CD or DVD on the shafts and a description so lame you have to go

              grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

              idiots

It's not just about a photo. Discription, feedback and replys to questions all play a part in gathering information as to whether to purchase or not. Most of the time I'll go ahead just to see if I was right! Nope! I don't get out much

So many thanks for your concern. But rest assure that there's no worries at all.
The Super8 community (if that could ever be counted as "community") here is wayyyyyy too small/too niche for any scammers to sneak in. If there's any one ever did, he'll be kicked out within seconds - it's really that small.

Besides that I'd reveal my identity only to whom I had ever met in persons. For others I'd leave only absolute minimum traces of my identity - just enough to complete the business.

And lastly, there're already too many scammers here coming in every imaginable approach anyway. So I believe I'm quite immune to that. It's a tough life here - you gotta survive that.
