I have two of those, Children of a Lesser God and Gorky Park on super 8 optical sound. As stated, a great actor, taken too soon. His most recent film, and quite good in it too, was, "The Kings Daughter". Whenever I heard his name in a films cast, I knew I had to see it, because, yes, he made the film just that much better.

I don't know what the actor was actually like as a person off screen, but maybe one of the reasons William Hurt was not as well liked as others, is that he always seemed like he had an "Aire" of being smug or arrogant or "I'm better than you" to his persona. He did always have the appearance, at least onscreen, of always being highly intelligent.

I think if we saw what most actors male and female were like in real life there would be few nice ones and very few fans. Hurt came across as assured and confident which could be construed as arrogant.
Its funny how actors can come across as intelligent and articulate in their public life yet can be complete idiots in regard to their personal life and holding onto their earnings.

Personally, I am not foolish enough to just believe if someone says something, that it is automatically the truth, whether man or woman.
Lana Wood couldn’t wait for Kirk Douglas to expire before rattling out the old alleged Natalie Wood rape story yet again. Never mind her mother delivered her and Natalie was quite active in that area of activity. I think Robert Wagner is trying desperately to outlive her. Let’s face it when your career can be summed up as Plenty O Toole in Diamonds are Forever it says a lot.
The most low story was Esther Williams. She who swam around in movies. She produced an autobiography that was as exciting as the phone book and her publishers told her they wouldn’t be able to sell any copies so she was sent back with a ghost writer to fictionalise her entire life. The infamous, I found my ex husband Jeff Chandler in my polka dot dress with lipstick on being one of those fake stories. The fact he was dead and she hated him made it easy for her to lie on talk show after talk show.
Maybe she was an actor after all. Anyway after a few years of living it up on her pension fund she admitted it was all made up for publicity purposes and that most of the book she didn’t read let alone write.
Hollywood brings out the best 🤢🤮🤢

Hi Mike
interesting post certainly concerning actors - what's true. Whets not?
Having worked in Mental Health for over 21 years actors and musicians to a degree as people/clients have always intrigued me.
A saying once that I heard was true from - actually a psychologist - "Actors seek approval for the person...they pretend to be.."
I've met a few actors and musicians - Insecurity is generally the root force that motivates and also sharpens their skills. They seem to walk around with a "bucket with a hole in it" fueled by applause...that consatntly needs refilling.
Interestingly - Spencer Tracy a brilliant "actors Actor" once said..."acting" isn't important..."Plumbing is..". Its something that hits the nail of truth om the "head". Acting and performing is great entertainment - I should know as I do a few performances myself. Its great fun and for very few at the top its extremely well paid. But its a reflection on society as to how important the public views them...if it came down to your house being flooded who would you call - a "plumber" or Robert De Niro pretending to be one.
That said - before De Niro "sold himself" out he may have been able to "method" act a good one...though I doubt it. Lol
Cheers to all

Actors are funny beings. Always trying to be somebody else because they have issues with their self. Usually get their perfect match in romance at tail end of their lives after their fifth sixth marriage.
De Niro had a lot of divorces and paternity suits to pay for hence hold your nose and take the money. He not the 1st one to do that.
