  • Thee Oscar Moment

I highly applaud Will Smith for his actions Oscar night. What a lot of foul, loud mouth people in the U.S. don't seem to understand is that with freedom of speech, they're also come responsibilities. If you have the lack of character to bad mouth a spouse, right in front of you, don't be surprised or shocked if you get "a bunch of fivers" in the face. Chris Rock had made a habit of bad mouthing Will Smith and wife in the past and apparently, Smith wasn't going to put up with Chris Rocks foul words again. If a person was to diss my wife or kids, whether to my face or behind my back, when I am face to face with them, I'll punch them and with pride, pay the fines. Smith's wife has a well documented, embarrassing hair loss condition.

Well I certainly wouldn't do that to someone who has played Mohamed Ali in a film. However I wonder if the reaction would have been the same if it had been Ricky Gervais making the joke, as I imagine he would have done the same to almost everyone in the room.

Don’t know Chip there were two tits on the stage. Would have been more fun if they actually had a full on fight wrestling on the stage. What man slaps another man think he would have used a fist . He did act Ali. Least they had 30 seconds of entertainment out of 5 hours of tedium.

Wonder did Chris Rock know Mrs Smith intimately at some point in the past.

I stopped watching the Academy Awards years ago because it became so boring.
-at least they seem to have fixed that.

("-and now the aaaaward for the best subtitles in a foreign language short documentary...")

It could have been scripted and done for fun. Also pointing out the infamous Timberlake/Jackson breast thing was superbowl halftime show. When the rich act up to provide entertainment is when I unplug the TV.

And now after 3 years of cable free tv in my house I have no plans to ever turn on the boob tube.

            LOL

I only watched some of the Oscars last night to see how Jane Champion film got on. however Will Smith and the "beep" this and "beep" that episode under minded I think the actual awards. The guy was "really" upset no doubt about that, and his later apology to the academy during his best actor award showed that, but what I can't understand, is that he was smiling at it to begin with, before things went downhill fast.

As far as the Oscars are concerned, I really don't know who most of these people are being interviewed, but to be honest the whole thing what I saw of it, seemed like a bit of a mess.

Ricky Gervais's swipe at Hollywood and the Oscars is truly a masterpiece in standup comedy. I always watch it when it trends on Twitter.

I did not watch, and have not watched the Oscars in years. I understand the Will Smith F-bombs were cut from the US broadcast, but can be seen and heard on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Hk2DLUn65k

The videos on youtube are more interesting for the comments. I got the impression that most folks thought Will Smith's decision to sucker-punch Chris Rock was the wrong move. I noticed many thought Chris Rock handled the surprise and the aftermath very well.

Regardless, a new low for all involved.

I think it is heading for Will Smith having the Academy Award withdrawn from him and being banned. They have excluded individuals for offensive tweets they wrote years ago and after the Harvey Weinstein scandal they were all required to sign up to terms and conditions of behaviour.

Don’t think physical assault and using expletives on a live tv show will get him any credits. Interesting to see how it pans out but can see the mother of all cat fights coming and you all know why.

As others, have said Academy Awards have been heading down the tube for years this certainly won’t help them.

Well, Smith is feeling the pressure, but I still feel he did the right thing. The thing I find interesting is, I have heard NOBODY asking Chris Rock to apologise for his I'll thought words, which, if not said in the first place, would not have led to the punch in the first place.

Did what Smith did was totally decent & morale? Nope.

But if it's me in the same situation, no doubt I'd do essentially the same as (or even more aggressive than) what Smith did, period.

Graham: I think I kinda understand that.
At the very first few seconds Smith would've just thought that "Hahaha what a joke.", but then immediately realized that that's HIS WIFE. And when he saw his wife's reaction that's probably when he'd lost temper, and went rogue.

What Will Smith did can not be justified. He could have verbally (without swearing ) taken Chris Rock to task. He is an actor not some shrinking Violet. Alternatively, Mrs Smith and him could have just walked out. Both would have had 100% support and would have been mature responsible actions.

The Academy Board should remove his Oscar and ban him. If it was you or me it would happen in an instant. We all know why they are dragging their knuckles on action. If they don’t do anything they might as well re instate Harvey Weinstein and say anything is allowed.

I see Smith has. now apologised to Rock. I’m sure it is heartfelt and genuine 🤣🤣🤣. It’s been reported that Will Smith tried to strangle a business associate 20 years ago so no doubt real persona stories will soon be appearing in the media. Can’t wait for poor boy in the ghetto, abusive father, anger and medical issues to responses to justify him.

Whilst I don’t like what Rock said what did they expect that is his act. If you heard what Rebel Wilson came out with at the BAFTAs it was mild. If a male comedian had said any of the sexual comments they would have hung out career finished.

Im sure the luvvies (nominees ) will cry into their $140,000 goodie bags they all get which basically covers their preaching in poverty and war.

Roll on for the next comedian to get shot or hit over the head with a baseball bat by a disgruntled punter. Sure it is part of the act.

On the other side of the coin, if Chris Rock was to have verbally abuse crippled children or even more blasphemous, was to even, in the slightest way, say even the
slightest thing against "alternate lifestyles", Chris would have been raked over the coals and crucified by all in Hollywood. Chris "F'd" up, and he was called on it.
