  • Max Von Sydow

I was reading today of the passing of Max Von Sydow and a film he was in that we watched at the cinema, way back in the 1980s. What was interesting about that evening, was that we set of to watch something else, but entered the wrong screening. After a while I said to Yvonne, this is a long trailer, still thinking the film we had gone to see was coming up. After a while I came to realize, we were in the wrong cinema. However I remember looking around and saw quite a few folk were at it, so we decided to stay and give it a go. The film was with English sub-titles and called "Pelle The Conqueror", what got me was the brilliant photography ,and in particular the ending which was not rushed. When we left the cinema I still felt cold after watching those long shot winter scenes. I watched it again just lately on DVD through the Panasonic VP. Its a movie well worth watching, if you don't mind sub-titles. The DVD does have English dubbing with Max Von Sydow actually doing it in both languages as well, so the choice is yours.

This is also available on Bluray. A review is available here:

It does not appear to have an English audio track.

The HD trailer is available here:

      Hi all,

Max Von Sydow - was a marvelous actor.

My favorite performance was when he played Leyland Gaunt (AKA) the Devil in the 1993 adaptation of Stephen Kings "Needful Things"...a really excellent movie. Trailer below:
