Why? I don't mean to offend here I am just curious.

On all Super 8mm prints made today - from vintage titles - the original SOURCE WAS/IS FILM. Granted, it may have taken an intermediary step along the way to digital for cleanup purposes etc. but the source was always film to begin with. Right?

I don't understand the desire that in no way a new Super 8mm print can ever have passed through any digitized process.

Maybe I am just not a 'purist'... My desire would be to enjoy the analog nature of projecting film at home with the best image and sound possible listening to the turning gears of the projector and soaking up some really cool nostalgia. The fact that said print may have come from a digital file doesn't concern me at a all - because it's film NOW.

For me, if it's a NEW Super 8mm print then it was never VINTAGE. At this point I am not sure what difference it makes.

And, I understand that I may be in the minority here.

For me the bottom line is if it’s a beautiful print, I couldn’t care less if it’s got some digital in its DNA.

I actually prefer to have some really recent films. They shake up people’s expectations that nothing’s been printed on S8 since the 80s!

Osi my friend you could always do the release yourself perhaps but you will need quite a large piggy bank. Nice to read of your passion for the title tho.
          My best.

Osi - email Ludwig at Andec and ask him - if memory serves the last time I spoke to him about this his cost was around 900 EUROS to do a 10 minute 16mm negative and then from that he makes Super 8mm prints - 2 at a time for for like 70 Euros each. This does not include any mag striping or recording.

So yes it is quite 'spendy'. I would suggest that you create a KICKSTARTER campaign where you get enough people to fund it to pay for it and all the work needed to get the sound on it. I am guessing you would need about 10 contributors at $250 each to provide enough funds to get 10 copies of a 10 minute film produced with sound. Everyone that contributes gets a copy.

When I suggested the same process a while back for Disney's THE BLACK HOLE - all I got back was 'crickets'. A more popular film like ALIEN or STAR WARS would be an easier sell most likely.

This is an expensive hobby if you want to start producing NEW Super 8mm prints that are clean etc.

Steve O and Dave B do this but they are losing money. Their passion drives them and we as consumers benefit from this passion. Thank you Steve and Dave!!

Producing a new Super 8mm print is doable. The costs however are high because it is such a niche market with a lot of talkers and few buyers. Its just he way things are.

I have to say that I cannot understand why anyone would plan to lose a lot of money to produce prints for collectors some of who then gripe about the quality. Is it a fact that the people who produce these prints lose money, how much? and why?

I couldn’t afford to lose on this sort of project, break even would be the bare minimum. If they do take a loss for the good of the hobby, good for them as there is so little new Super 8 movies produced today and I am sure collectors appreciate their efforts.

Phillip, believe me, your "preaching to the choir", as I know the costs are really high. I am continuing to search for a super 8 optical printer and by this time ... Anywhere! Italy? France? Phil, it is the passion for super 8. It goes way beyond just collecting, it goes beyond any thought of, "Can we afford this?". Afford has nothing by to do with it. It's passion, plain and simple. When it comes to modern releases ... honestly, I really don't see much of anything that is worth going through what it takes, coming from modern film making.

Well done Osi - I agree..your passion for film does you credit!

Hopefully about autumn I will be in the process of setting up another "SilvoScreen 2" which will be a general film collecting website and forum - including film posters, and other memorabilia.as well as direct links to ebay sales in 8mm. 16 and other.in time. It will not encroach on this excellent forum but hopefully enhance and bring new collectors/enthusiasts into the fold - we can work alongside each other.

I ill also incorporate my You Tube channel which has 2.500 subscribers. -

You guys know that I love " Big screen entertainment" the main reason a got into 8mm in 1973...so whilst many find me controversail...i just like to get people interested...we need it.

                  Anyway - take care

I will see you all at Blackpool - i'm definitely - just booked at the Grand - going and will be filming as I really want to get dealers perspective form set-up to close of show.

                  Take care all

                  Mark (Silvo")

Phillip, my apologies, I never said how long the cartoon is ... 6 minutes 59 seconds, minus leader, so by that estimation, a negative would be around 600 or so dollars. Mark, received your PM, and replied.

Since the original topic title gives no hint as to what this thread is about, I have changed the title.

And since we now have a clearer view of what the topic is, let's stay on it.

This is definitely a title that won't be a "gee, new on super 8", but be something that you buy but almost never watch, this is definitely a "repeat offender" and will be watched repeatedly!
