  • Roger Moore

Re watching a couple of documentaries on Roger Moore recently. I was struck what a nice guy he was. All those who worked with him said the same. Wouldn’t leave my wife or daughter alone with him in his prime mind you.

The other thing that was identified was he has no confidence in his ability or skills as an actor and used humour against himself as a defence. “The Man who Haunted Himself “ was really his only serious role which is a shame.

... and yet, he successfully made a career in hundreds of films and TV shows. Gary Cooper was another person who people, when they saw him on set, before the camera, felt that he was doing nothing and yet, it was another whole thing on the big screen. Honestly, I never really liked Moore, for some odd reason, ehhh, just too good looking, I guess.

Below is a picture of me getting Roger Moore's autograph at a book signing in Ridgewood NJ. Everyone on line was telling him what their favorite James Bond film was, or something about The Saint TV show. I got up to get my book signed, I told him my favorite film of his was Ffolks. He stopped signing, looked up and chuckled, saying he had a great time making that movie and he had wished they had done more of the series. We talked for a few minutes until the book store staff, who had a line that went up a flight of stairs, out the front door, and wrapped around the corner, nudge me away. I agree, Roger Moore seemed to me to be a genuinely nice guy.

I remember helping a guy get a big typesetting machine in through the entrance of the Admin block at Pinewood Studios back in the 80's. As we were huffing and puffing with this boxy thing, Roger Moore approached from the stage direction with his arm in a sling. Apparently he'd hurt it while ski-ing. 'If I wasn't so incapacitated, I'd lend a hand,' was his quip. He was well liked in the studio.
