It has just been announced that the actor Bernard Cribbins has died at the age of 93.
Among many appearances he was also known as the voice of The Wombles. The Wombles - Intro / Outro Theme Music - YouTube
Bernard Cribbins was a very prolific performer. He will be sadly missed.
I have a 16mm copy of the 1972 "Wombles' Circus". And a 400ft Super 8 excerpt from the 1972 "The Railway Children".
no good, I have just finished running a small season of the Dalek feature films at my cinema and are about to commence with a weekend run of THE RAILWAY CHILDREN, RIP Bernard.
Another highly under rated actor, now sadly gone, my first recollection of Bernard Cribbins was when I first went to see him in the second Doctor Who movie, but for me he will always be the voices of the Wombles, being born in the early 1960's, this was a stable watch at teatime. Then his recent turn in the re-booted Doctor Who was well written for him, and he turned in an excellent turn as Catherine Tate's charecters Grandad, still 93 is a good "innings"!
Bernard Cribbins was a class act. A few days ago I happened to watch ‘Carry on Dick’ and he was so good in it as Albert Poopdecker RN alongside Juliet Mills, a very underrated Carry On film. No one could replace him as Station Master Perks in The Railway Children his effortless charm on screen helped to raise a sublime film even higher God Bless you Bernard you will be sadly missed
A very popular actor with cast and crew, I met Bernard Cribbins years ago during the making of 'Carry on Columbus' at Pinewood. Must have been early 90s and that must have been the worst Carry On ever. He had a massive repertoire of jokes and film biz stories to keep people amused during breaks in filming. My main memory is of a gentle, kindly soul. Not grand at all and very approachable. Wish I still had the Wombles animated film on Super 8 that I once had.
