Anyone here got it on Super8? John does an excellent review of it, not only the 4K release, but the Super 8 feature as well.

I own a print of PREDATOR but it is actually sort of a long digest. Someone wanted to fit the feature on a 1600 foot Taylor reel so the person cut out some of the extraneous scenes but all the action scenes are left intact. And the price was right at $100. It is a beautiful print.

Yes the S8 print is very nice indeed although recently sold mine to a younger enthusiast who is a fan of Arnie as I am. The 4K Blu-Ray is the replacement, a joyful watch and listen to behold. The 4K cinema went in here during lock down and supplements my projected film formats very well. The 4K sound track is really immersive I find and another treat to listen to.
The film itself was shot on Arriflex 35mm and Panaflex Gold cameras giving it a nice look and thankfully the did no digital grain reduction to the 4K so it still looks like film. They stuck with the DTS HD sound track so its pretty much like watching the film at its first screening perhaps with excellent colour as well.

Raw Deal is another favorite here and that soon gets the 4K resto treatment out 24th Oct over here £19.99

In the future you will be seeing 400/600ft S8 of popular Arnie titles something to look forward to.

John has always had a really good feel for this sort of thing. Most people who do reviews on YouTube and elsewhere, would not know the very properties of film and film grain and therefore speak with no authority. Clancy does.

I bought a super 8 print new, but it was around 1997 and unfortunately the negative had been washed by then and displayed slight water marks throughout. That said it was a stunningly sharp print. When it was first shown at Ealing a few years earlier, collectors were saying it looked like 16mm and it certainly did.

The first Blu-ray was indeed a DNR disaster and became notorious as to how studios could muck up HD releases.

Another Blu-ray release followed (a good few years ago now) which is actually very good. Sure, grainy as anything, but that’s how it looks.

Always enjoy John’s 4K reviews. His film background in celluloid certainly does give his option gravitas.

There was actually an earlier blu ray of Predator which wasn't de-grained, it was the second 'Ultimate Hunter Edition' release which got hit hard with the DNR stick

Ah, thanks for the clarification Lee. I must have the original non DNR release then. Thought it was the other way around!
