Do you know / remember this screen company ?

Having recently started presenting outdoor film shows for the first time, I was able to dig up after years of living in its box in the garage, my big screen that is too big for indoor shows. It is 75" wide. It has the shop sticker still attached to it, as you will see below.

My question is.... has anyone heard of this company at all ? Just curious.

Hi Melvin, Johnson’s of Hendon used to make photographic chemicals. I’m not sure if they are still in business but I remember buying Johnson’s Universal developer in the 60s. I would think they have gone the same way as a lot of photographic firms. Regards, Clive

I remember it well. They were, may be still are, suppliers of all kinds of photographic chemicals and equipment like screens,tripods, including film cement etc. used their products a lot in my younger days. Ken Finch.

They were a very well known supplier but have long since disappeared I would think.

Johnsons of Hendon was one of the golden oldies from the photograhic past.As well as there own branded products [ known as scales brand as they did a lot of chemicals for home processing ] they imported many pieces of equpment, the best known being Eumig.
They were based on the london north circular road, on a prime bit of land.
The company was sold, Photopia from Stoke-on-trent took the photo product into their portfolio becoming Johnsons-Photopia [J/P] based in Stoke.

Fond memories of the trade as it was. J/P went some years ago.

Tom, I did a quick calculation from the Photo and came up with an estimate of at least 1,500 Eumig P8's on that truck!!!

Further to the post by Tom, I have also looked it up on the net ad it appears it was acquired by Haster Company in 1972 and then purchased by Eumig in 1977 and became Eumig U K. Ken Finch.

The photochemical (at least colour negative printing and reversal film) side went to a company called Photocolor, who seemed to have bought the scales logo as seen from this photo showing the sort of publicity they thought would sell it from the Photoworld 1981 exhibition.
