We'll watch our digest of XANADU tomorrow night! Incredibly sad! Most people will comment on her films, of course, but she had such an incredible run of beautiful songs in the 70's. "If Not For You", "Sam", " I honestly Love You ", just to name a few! I spent long hours as a teen, with headphones, wishing that I was her man ... Oh, Olivia, " If we both were born, in another place and time ... "

GREASE was the first feature I ran solo as a projectionist on duty all by himself. I was so happy and proud. We were very busy, everything was good upstairs. It would also be the very first super eight feature to kick off my collection. Who would have thought over 425 features later it still to this day and very sad week remains one of my all time favorite films.
Thank you, Olivia for the love, opportunities, and music you gave us.

Magic in a bottle moment with Grease. Perfect movie and casting.
Can you imagine Marie Osmond as Sandy. Apparently, she was the 1st choice with Ann Margaret favoured by Allan Carr. Also, Susan Dey Partridge Family was considered. Olivia got the role by offering to take a small salary for star billing. Olivia couldn’t master American accent so Sandy became Australian. It was all made on a shoestring for $6 million. Olivia sued Paramount for royalties owed to her.
Richard Gere was thought of as Danny plus Henry Winkler was offered the role but turned it down.
Teen Angel was considered for Elvis but his death precluded that. Donny Osmond was also considered for Teen Angel

Olivia was the epitome of "wholesome" when it was still cool or at least OK. It's kind of funny, as most of her most beautiful songs were about either having her heart broken or wanting to cheat on her partner. Later, her songs got that hard edged quality, such as "A little More Love", and "Physical", but by then, the age of the lovely ballads was at an end. By the time she pretty much retired from the music/film scene, around 85, things had totally changed, and so I think it was wise on her part, and, we'll always have that lovely music! RIP, Olivia!

Very sad news. Apart from Grease, my memories also include her duets with Cliff Richards.
Also lost another of my favourites this week. Another Australian., Judith Durham, lead singer of The Seakers. They were first introduced to the u.k. by Terry Wogan on his very popular morning radio show. Does anyone remember his Janet and John stories? Ken Finch.
