Good day to one and all!

After basically tripping over a Victor 55c in my local Habitat for Humanity Re-store I couldn't resist the call of the glowing tubes. I'm a sucker for it. I'm a licensed radio amateur and have fiddled with tube amps before so I was hopeful things would swing my way.

I discovered this forum because film-tech has the only manual that covers this device that I could find on the Internet. I couldn't believe how sparse the documentation on this thing was. As I dug around on related topics you folks kept showing up so I figured this must be the place to be for film topics. I've been very impressed by the extra effort I regularly see in answers posted here.

Anyway, the restoration of the projector is going well. The recap is pending delivery of 4 .5ufd caps but otherwise complete. While excavating for caps in the motor circuit I got a good look at all of that and everything except the drive belt look top notch. The belt is sloughing the outer layer but is still flexible and solid.

The bulbs look great. Almost new.

I have numerous questions I'll be posting as I go so I look forward to getting to know you all better!

    Robie,

Welcome to the Forum! I look forward to your upcoming posts about your Victor Animatograph 55. The company was based in Davenport, Iowa, also the home of Eastin Pictures, which later became Blackhawk Films.

I could never understand why the Victor Animatograph worked backwards.

What I mean to say is that the feed spool was at the rear. After leaving the sound head to go back up towards the front take-up spool the film had to have a curious loop to clear the lens beam.

Yeah. That film path is something. Maybe after I get some film run through it and get some experience with it there will be some insight. For the time being I can only agree!

I wish you luck with your new projector, Robie.
And another criticism. The sound drum is stationary, it doesn't rotate.
