Being confined at the moment and seeing some photos of this grand old lady getting a new boiler at present, reminded me of this short video I took during a visit, back in 1992. I always told New Zealanders, that were visiting the UK, and in particular heading up to Scotland, to include a trip on the Waverley if they can, as nothing can beat a cruise on the Clyde on a nice summers day

Well as it happens I relocated from London up to Rothesay at the beginning of last October so am now 6 months on the island.
Yes, the PS Waverley is currently having both it's 2 boilers refitted at a cost of some £2.3m with a lot of the money raised from those islanders on Bute and the other Isles in the nearby Kyles 😊
It was due back in service for this summer but I guess that will now depend upon how long it takes for the lock-down to be relaxed.
I still have my Sankyo XL620 camera and have just picked-up a Beaulieu 1008XL (both of which are in good working condition - so if I can get some film and when the old girl is on 'the watter' again I could shoot some film of her for the first time in nearly 30yrs and once developed post it on here - if that was of any interest to people??
My mum (who was born in Shettleston, Glasgow) always used to tell me about how splendid it was to travel down the Clyde on what is now the last working Paddle-Steamer in the world!
Indeed, and at these difficult times for everyone, through this forum it just goes to show what a small world it can be at times when one member all way in New Zealand posts about something where another member has just recently relocated to! 😊

The Waverley is a national treasure. In the summer months she comes down from Scotland and does tours of the Bristol Channel Islands off the coast of South Wales. We moved from Glasgow to Dunoon in 1964. It was there I attended DGS. Dunoon was a great place to live during the 1960s with steamers going up and down the clyde all the time, the place was a real buzz. Because Dunnon at that time, did not have a indoor swimming pool, I used to meet up with friends and catch one of the many steamers on a Sunday trip to Rothesay, which had a indoor swimming pool. Looking back to those times they were really good. Although this following film was taken in 1959 the Firth of Clyde was very much like what is shown up to the late 1960s .
I saw the Waverley at a distance some years ago, off the coast of the Isle of Wight. Good to see a paddle steamer in the Solent again as I remember some on the Isle of Wight ferry run, though they may have been diesel. A pity the last one of those is rotting away.
Excellent camerawork Graham with nice steady shots and dissolves. I watched the other video and noticed it was directed by James Ritchie. Any relation? Watching it made me want to go again as we've recently been on two 'Locks and Glens' holidays which were absolutely marvellous. Reminded me of happier days. Thanks so much.
Thanks Dave your welcome. I don't think James Ritchie is a relation that I know of, although I can't say for certain, we were all over the place. Dave it might be worth checking out the BFI web site for the "British Transport Films" on DVD they sell. "Coast Of Clyde" is just one of many interesting titles included in there DVDs.
The Waverley regularly docks in Weymouth harbour when she comes down South and sometimes visitors are able to go aboard and look her over. She always attracts a lot of attention.

As I only live a 5min walk from the harbour (and if the weather is not too bad) I will go down into town and take some pictures of her and post them here later.
