Has the completely unedited Mr Bean TV show, ever been released anywhere? The yellow box set, U.S. version, is certainly edited.

    Hi Osi

I just checked Amazon on that yellow box set you mention, very expensive. I only ever bought three DVDs of the TV series locally years ago, none that I can see were ever edited, I cant figure out why in the US they would do that?.

From experience it seems that everything released in the USA is cut in some way. Years ago I purchased the box sets of Some mothers do Ave em and Are you being served ? from Virgin megastore in San francisco, got them home and to my horror every episode is cut in some way. It beggars belief how Frank Spencer and Mrs Slocombe could ever be offensive to anyone. After this I have never purchased anything from the US ever again.

Some of it must be for running time. British TV doesn't have a set standard as to how long a show can be. One example of edited material from that Bean collection, is when Bean goes to the department store to buy his chair, and ALL the footage of Bean in the store, including Bean using the chair as a torture device on an elderly lady, is gone, which annoyed the heck out of me.

It can either be advertising times or sensitivity editing. Watching Oceans 11 1960 version yesterday I noticed Sammy Davis scenes were cut from film which actually reduced his role. Makes you glad for Blu ray and DVDs.

Some Mothers Do Ave Em DVD in the UK is edited in a small way. Certainly one scene which may appear racist today is cut out.

              Hi Osi,
Over some time I have managed to pick up all of the french releases of the Mr Bean episodes second hand for next to nothing. They are all intact unedited as they were originally shown.
Next year when the garage sells start up again, I will see if I can find you the complete set and send them over to you. If you would like me to.

We scanned and uploaded the two 35mm Mr. Bean shorts to our YouTube channel.

                https://www.youtube.com/@FTDepot/videos

Just go to the channel and use the search there to search for "Mr. Bean" and they will show up along with a Mr. Bean policy trailer for cinemas.
