As I said a couple of years ago, I'm sure when I saw the film of Winston Churchill in WWII (The Darkest Hour) I'm sure that they hadn't removed the 3D polariser as the screen lark of brightness made it really the darkest two hours.

Before Odeon Cinemas in the UK got rid of many of their 35mm projectionists I used to visit for a chat with a Chief Operator I knew. When NEC video projectors were installed he was kept on for a few months so that he could teach the management how to operate the system.

On one of my later visits he complained about the fact that Odeon insisted that the three projectors should have 2000 watt lamps. He thought the picture was too dim, particularly when showing 3D prints. He felt that 3000 watt lamps would be much better suited, but no, he was told that they were too expensive.

After spending 50 years as a projectionist I am so glad that I retired whilst good old 35mm was still being run.

I had the same experience at a local AMC theater with a large screen (large, unmasked screen with no curtains ). The picture was dim and lacked contrast. I thought it might be intended by the director, but when I watched it again at home, I concluded it was just a poor presentation by that theater.

That is one of the benefits of a home theater. If a Blu-ray that you are watching is a little Dil or the colors are way too enhanced, you can adjust your 4K TV this way or that, but it can get to be a little annoying, doing it almost every other day. Sigh, what I wouldn't give to just project some actual film .... Hey! Wait a minute! I can project some actual film! Yay!
